The sweeping coastline borders on Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park, a vast expanse of pristine jungle and rare wildlife. For the perfect Khao Lak souvenir, browse the town’s colourful rubber and handmade flower market. You’ll also find many small streets full of shops selling all types of goods, including dried seafood, shrimp paste, and household items. A little further north, Takua Pa Old Town is well worth a visit, with its Sino-Portuguese architecture, quaint shops, traditional markets and riverside restaurants.
Take a day trip out to Similan Island, just off the coast of Khao Lak, where divers and snorkellers will discover an amazing kaleidoscope of coral reefs. To see them at their best, visit during the dry season, from December to mid-April.
