Thailand’s third largest island, Koh Samui is one of the country’s most popular travel destinations. The island has rapidly developed from a small fishing community into a thriving tourist paradise. However, it has still maintained its beauty and has everything to offer, from coconut-fringed beaches and tropical jungles to excellent restaurants and a vibrant nightlife.
Koh Samui is encircled by sparkling turquoise waters and miles of sandy beaches. Chaweng, Lamai, Bophut and Maenam Beaches are hugely popular with travellers. Enjoy fishing, diving or boating in the water, or tour the island on bike or elephant. There are stunning waterfalls, temples and jungles to explore, as well as golf courses, a butterfly garden, aquarium, tiger zoo, monkey theatre, crocodile farm and much more.
The nearby island of Koh Phangan is world famous for its monthly full moon party on Hat Rin Beach, but it’s also the perfect place to relax. Koh Phangan’s quiet, secluded beaches are some of the finest in the Gulf of Thailand. Explore the beautiful Than Sadet Waterfall, Namtok Phaeng National Park and Wat Khao Tham temple.
Just a two-hour boat ride north of Koh Samui, Kho Tao or ‘Turtle Island’ is one of the best dive sites in the Gulf of Thailand. Here majestic bays embrace a colourful underwater world, only a step away from your hotel room. There are plenty of diving schools to help hone your skills, or you can take a long-tail boat to magical Koh Nang for a day of snorkelling. Watch the sun set over a drink in one of the beachside bars or clubs, and indulge in a delectable seafood dinner.
