An exquisite land of turquoise seas, palm-fringed beaches, world class diving sites and magnificent rainforests, Phuket is one of the world’s ultimate holiday destinations. Often dubbed the ‘pearl of the Andaman Islands’ or ‘pearl of the south’, Thailand’s largest and most popular island boasts a wealth of attractions, culture and natural wonders. To experience Phuket at its best, visit during the November to February dry season, when you can enjoy clear blue skies, fresh sea breezes and crystal clear water.

The western coastline of Phuket is among the most beautiful and famous in the world. Here, powdery white beaches stretch for miles between lush jungles and dazzling turquoise waters. The coastline is perfect for fishing, snorkelling and other water sports, and abounds with chic restaurants and luxury beach resorts. Patong, the largest resort, is renowned for its nightlife and cosmopolitan dining, as are Karon and Karon Noi. Pamper yourself at one of the luxury day spas, and enjoy traditional Thai massage by the beach.

If you want to escape the crowds, visit the quieter western beaches of Mai Khao, Nai Yang, Nai Thon, Bang Thao and Kamala, or Ao Sen and Nai Han in the south. Fringing a scenic bay, tranquil Nai Han is home to the Samnak Song Nai Han monastery, and is arguably one of Phuket’s finest beaches. Take a longboat to one of Phuket’s neighbouring little islands, like Ko Racha yai or Ko Kaeo Pisadan, and explore their stunning forests, mountains, rock formations, and coral reefs.

Further inland, Phuket features some breathtaking vistas, from sweeping rubber and pineapple plantations to Ko Yao’s remote rainforests. Take an elephant ride through Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Park, where you’ll discover pristine jungle and a myriad of rare wildlife. Visit the stunning pools and falls of nearby Ton Sai Waterfall Forest Park. Or enjoy a game and spectacular views at one of the many world class golf courses.

Get a true taste of Thai culture in Phuket Town, whose historic streets hum with the rhythms of everyday Thai life. From Sino-Portuguese architecture to a colourful calendar of festivals, the city boasts a rich, cosmopolitan heritage and atmosphere. Browse authentic markets on Thanon Ranong, and discover fantastic traditional restaurants and some of Phuket’s best handicraft shops. The kids will love Phuket Butterfly Farm and Aquarium, while the Buddhist temples in Thalang district will captivate visitors of all ages.
